心の合衆国3部作「That Healin' Feelin' (Phase I)」「Total Response (Phase II)」「All (Phase III)」が、2in1で再発されていました。

70年代のミュージックシーンらしく、スピリチャルなブラックコンテンポラリーといった所。唄もので、メッセージ性が強く、激しく電化されています。なので、当時の頭の固いジャズファンには、敬遠され続け、不遇の扱いを受けていた名作群です。

エレベ、エレピ（これがチープな音で、また良いんだ）を導入し、ワウギターに2管アンサンブルで16ビート演られた日にゃ、腰が砕けます。特に「Total Response」と「All」は、ほとんどPop R&Bといった内容で、ジャズ的なインタープレイなどは、皆無という内容。「That Healin' Feelin'」で、ジョージ・コールマンとランディ・ブレッカーのアドリブを聴くことが出来ますが、唄伴だけあって短い・・・。

しかしながら、サウンド的には、重量級ファンクからニューオリンズ風セカンドラインというかカントリー風まであり、バラェティに富んでいて、楽しめること請け合い。昨今のクラブジャズシーンの盛り上がりで、この頃のファンクジャズミュージックが、逆に注目されてきていますね。

次は、トム・ハレル(tp)ボブ・バーグ(ts)のフロント時代の「Silver'n 〜」シリーズの再発を激しく希望。
